Sun Java 1.5 and the distro-imposed need for java-sun-compat is about as
mainstream and un-magic as you can get, which is why I use it as the
poster child for this discussion, but it's a repeating theme and the
details don't matter. Take just about anything that isn't included in
the fedora repository for whatever reasons - and there seem to be plenty
of reasons - and the distribution has made it harder than it should be
to install and maintain.
