Disabling monitor sleep did not fix it. I've switched to gdm to see if
that solves it, though like you I am skeptical. Replying to another

The system is always idle when it hangs, and indeed is mostly idle
overall. Some of these numbers do look a little high, but they're not at
the critical points so I'm not sure what to make of it.
