Fedora/RH doesn't equal all of FOSS. Linux is obviously well populated
with distributions and software created with no expectation of being
sold, and no expectation that anyone would be willing to buy it, in any
case.
So, when Red Hat or Ubuntu or whoever do have a dependence on customer
sales, that's exactly the linkage between developers and customers that
has no real substitute elsewhere in FOSS, where customers don't exist.
The abandonment of Gnome 2 is the best example of that.
