Re: hcaptcha, is A curiosity about multi-user systems?

Glen,
Your point is perfectly clear. It is simply rooted in a lack of human understanding, and apparently the various ways the brain works...let alone the point of this thread in the first place, finding paths to places where captchas present barriers. There was never a moment in this thread where the ability to solve a math problem defines limited ability save in your own head.

Using the Internet requires the ability to understand web content.
Anybody who cannot solve five plus seven, or use a calculator, or access
something like Alexa for solving such things, cannot make use of web pages
independently. Therefore must otherwise have the assistance at hand to help
understand web content in general, and likewise, get through the math
captcha with the assistance already at hand.
I'm sorry if some can't understand my point.
That is all I will contribute to this messed up discussion.

Any kind of CAPTCHA acts as a filter that turns people away.
It defeats the point of having a medium accessible to all.

Glenn:

It's called dyscalculia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyscalculia

As the above page asserts, dyscalculia doesn't mean you're not a genius
in other types of human knowledge.

So, can we please have just a touch of humility here? We want
accomodation from our society for our inability to function from visual
sensory data. Let's be ready to give like we want to get, please.

Best,

Janina

Come on Karen, you know that's not the same.
If someone cannot add five plus seven, then they probably need someone
to
help them understand the pages in the first place.
Don't play that game with me.

Interesting perspective about other members of the human family.
how does your stance differ from those who believe that if one cannot
see
the screen they are not going to get much out of the Internet, or films,
or television?

Glen,
Math problems are some of the most inclusive efforts at captchas.
Largely
supported by w3c standards. Individuals with cognitive challenges
have
issues with visual captchas as well.

Apparently this keeps out computer hacks too.

Granted the issues captchas pose are extensive for several
populations.
still, your idea of changing the user agent, no matter how
reasonable,
seems to sort of make you a hacker. All the while this service
continues
to misrepresent what access means, and if their twitter conversations
on
the topic are any indication, limit access to a very small box.
there must be a more direct solution to this situation?

When hCaptcha first came out I went on CloudFlare's site and ranted

Ultimately CAPTCHAs exclude anyone that is worse off than an AI. I
hate
it.

You could try setting your browser agent to some Windows thing, that
might help.
