You do not need to do the:
>> $ sudo slmodemd -c USA --alsa hw:0,6
as the modem is already activated.
Just
$ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
appropriately and try a dialout:
$ sudo wvdial

The slmodemd installed by the sl-modem-daemon package matches your
System already.
