Problem solved.
Interesting: yesterday as Michael suggested, I changed altnamespace to 0 and removed my username from admins and imap_admins in imapd.conf. This worked. So I added myself back to admins: didn't work. Added myself back to imap_admins only: it worked. (Which is weird)
Now I removed myself from imap_admins again, and now it works
from both at home and from remote.
