Re: AD Time

So, this whole discussion started based on Kathleen sharing her experiences as SEC AD.  I've always thought that ADs could rely more on their directorates, but I do think SEC (and maybe OPS) is unique in that security applies to all our documents, as opposed to ART area, for example.  We have 3 ADs for ART and RTG.  So, maybe for SEC specifically a 3rd AD could help spread the day to day workload for the WGs for which they're responsible.  I apologize if that has been mentioned - I gave up on reading all the emails in this conversation - if it has, then +1.

The idea of paid staff is a terrible place to go IMHO.  The organizations with paid staff have memberships - pay to play...

Mary.

And this begs an interesting (to me :-) question.

When someone says she works at being AD 37.6% of her time, does she mean "37.6% of her paid time" or "37.6% of the time that is available to work on anything"?

That would seem to cut into the "volunteer ethos" a lot.

So, clearly, someone who puts in 45 hours a week as AD is a hero when they are paid for those hours, but when 39 of those hours are voluntary, unpaid time, then they are a super-hero.

And it is important for ADs reporting how much time the role takes up to report the total hours spent (modesty should not come into it!).
