My comments on nominees would be much less frank if I knew they
would be published. In fact, I doubt if I would make any at all.

It is safer not to leave any compromising evidence.

Feh. This one's easy: vote for the individual who'd sponsor your
individual submission.

Works great, right?

Absolutely. :-)

This year's NomCom has members from:

North America 5
 Cisco.com 2
 Juniper.net 2
 Avaya.com 1

Europe 2
 Nokia.com 1
 NLnetlabs.nl 1

Asia 3
 Huawei.com 2
 Chinamobile.com 1

Cisco.com, juniper.net, huawei.com and nokia.com are in the top 10 for authorship affiliation. The above is also a refection of regional attendance. A person who is not aware of the peculiarities (see RFC 3797) of NomCom might have a different reading of the above.

Sure - there are other trade-offs, no doubt. But I think
every time this topic has come up, the discussion is dominated
by people that do attend meetings, and I'd be interested in
what might come out if we tried that discussion just amongst
non-attending active participants.

That could be interpreted as "let's listen what others have to say". I would extend that to non-active participants.

The following is off-topic. NomCom is currently requesting comments about the persons who have volunteered (or have been nominated) for IAB or IESG positions. As the names have not been publicly disclosed, I prefer not to list them.

There is currently a discussion [1] about whether a draft should be published as an Applicability Statement or a Best Current Practice. I would be grateful if the nominees could share their views about the publication path.

IAOC nominees might find it easier to share their views about the following:

No food or beverages are allowed to be brought into the meeting rooms and
working group sessions unless specifically served by the IETF.
