I feel like the context of that whole email has been lost. It was merely a long list of reasons why "just package software for dozens of distros" isn't an viable answer in response to the other person's claim. Fedora is a bit of an exception to the rule for some of those, I know, however most Linux distros aren't Fedora... and Fedora breaks software in its own unique way.


In regards to the Grub security bug, I was thinking of the backspace bug which allowed recovery console access.
