Because all files are removed in accordance with this process:

  http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Extras/PackageEndOfLife

As why the files are removed, I can't answer that question.

Accidental builds can be prevent like this:
http://cvs.fedora.redhat.com/viewcvs/devel/gdome2/gdome2.spec?root=extras&r1=1.8&r2=1.9
