MiaMIDI & alsa in Ubuntu 8.10

Hi,

I have just upgraded *to* Ubuntu 8.10 from 8.04.1, especially in the
hopes that the alsa modules *will be more friendly* to my MiaMidi, Echo
sound card... (I had unresolved problems w/ 8.04.1; I could not get
digital sound to input, or output to my Yamaha 01v digital mixer, which
worked fine on Windows XP). I would address this just to Giuliano
Pochini, except, perhaps some one else will know too(?):

1.) I would like to know if these are the most current
drivers/firmware: 'alsa-driver-1.0.8.tar.bz2' &
'alsa-firmware-1.0.8.tar.bz2'

2.) Are they compatible with Ubuntu 8.10? If not, or there are necessary
modification/dependencies, etc. what then?

3.) Further if the current instructions at
<http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-mia> are in
fact current?

In case it helps to get to any answers coming forth, I'm using a Mobil
AMD Athlon XP-M 3000+ processor w/ 1.5 GB memory

This should get me started. Thanks.

Henry
