If you can reproduce issue when use of Sent folder is disabled, then you know that it is not caused by SquirrelMail IMAP delivery code, which saves send messages. If you can't reproduce it, then maybe SquirrelMail only forgot to close imap connection or Dovecot blocks second IMAP connection.
