With the Epson it makes no difference to print size whether you tell the printer software to lay down ink at 720 or 1440 dpi ... you just use more ink. The resolution (dpi) attached to the PhotoShop file is what it uses to determine the print size (based on pixel dimesions). As far as passing things off - the dogma does not always stand up when tested ... I entered a poster-sized print from 35 mm into a competition. The judge waxed about the fine detail obtainable from large format cameras. Little did he know. If the medium were truly limited to "4000 dpi" this would not be have been possible.
