Yes, it is backed up. However, there is a problem with restoring the data
(see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2881).

The GPE data counts as "documents". If you select "documents" to be backed
up, the data is correctly stored in the backup ZIP files. I believe it will
be correctly restored if you have to reflash the device. However, restoring
to an existing system does not work.

This is a backup/restore bug, not a GPE bug. It applies to all data you
backup -- you cannot restore a backup of your documents if you manage to
delete one of them by mistake.

In an emergency you could install "unzip" and then unzip the backup files by
hand and copy the data files. Alternatively, if you are paranoid, you can
copy the GPE data yourself onto a memory card. The data is in a hidden
directory, so you can't use the GUI, but you can do it from an X Terminal --
you would copy everything in the ~/.gpe directory.

Or vote for bug 2881, if you care about restoring your backups.

Well, you can check the files which control this, which are
in /etc/osso-backup/applications/. But the best way to be sure is to test
it.
