I recommend to follow Eero's advices (email from this thread) and use those as a startinig point. Unfortunately my experience is mostly based on real measurements on real devices, but i guess that if you are running your app in quemu you should be able to detect activity from processes. However thtere are "hidden" bugs, like using buggy libraries: you expect your code to be suspended, instead it's relying on a nasty busyloop down the chain.
