You can send the patches via the ML, no issues.

Easier to maintain. linuxtv.org, just provides hg push/pull, but on a private 
server you can easily handle what you want, for example every time you don't 
have to push/pull (for me it takes ~45 minutes on a push for a new tree)

Whereas on the private server it is easy to do it in the shell.
