I feel sorry for Ted, who _does_ have to evaluate consensus here. For better or worse, current RFCs in standards track have boilerplate saying " " This document is a product of the Internet Engineering Task Force " (IETF). It represents the consensus of the IETF community... Unless and until this boilerplate changes, IESG members have an obligation to try to decide whether that statement is true.
