I think we should give up on attracting the Good Individual (TM) to the IETF and focus on attracting
new communities into the organization.

Quite a bit of ad-hoc standardization happens without our involvement. Most of us would say this is a
Good Thing and proof that the overall Internet architecture is sound and allows innovation.

Despite all the turmoil in recent months and years, there is value in (some of) the culture of the
IETF. Perhaps if we tried to exercise a bit more humility when faced with potential new work we might
become more successful in attracting new talent at the same time.

(Also, a bit of humility often helps with inclusivity too)

No I don't want to get into specifics but I think we could all recall a BoF or two that made us
cringe at the thought of how we choose to treat newcomers sometimes.
