I have not written a boot loader since programming assembly on z80's.
I may be a little out of touch with the common procedures, and I 
really don't care to learn them. I have enough source code to deal 
with right now, I don't need another project.

I'll take your word for it. From what I've seen it looks like a 
complicated and nasty thing to work on.
