My only exposure to W8 was last May when I installed the beta to a system with 8 filesystems it supports, and last partition sda23. I don't remember any material difference between it and XP in having to select which partition it should install to on a text screen not unlike what the default Debian installer still used last I installed Debian. IOW, Windows' partition options are nonzero.
The W8 install did leave me unable to figure out how to boot XP, so it wasn't long before I restored all the first partition's content, leaving me with no access to booting W8, which I most definitely didn't and don't miss. What a stupid UI for a PC desktop environment!
