I believe openSUSE 12.3 does not install syslog anymore either. (I think
they decided they did not want to log everything twice? :) Fedora's
following this time.

Is this of any importance? May be you should think about the reasons we are using Fedora and are not using openSUSE.

That said Fedora should draw its own decisions and not try to be an imitation cult.
