I still don't see the problem. As far as I know, the username you supply
in .fetchmailrc doesn't have to be the invoking user's name on the
invoking system. It's just incidental that mine is, not mandatory. Else,
why even bother having a specifiable field? 

What happens when you put the data in as the remote system expects it
and launch fetchmail? Have you launched it -d0 to watch its progress?
What happens?
