text speakup_synth=dtlk is exactly one option I tried, when I didn't get speech, I rebooted to windows and got got the floppy from speakup.octothorp.org, as I knew it had to have speakup in it, and then it worked. When I got to lilo configuring, I added speakup_synth=dtlk to the line that already had something like hdd=ide-scsi. Or should the ide-scsi be separate on a line of it's own? Either way, no speech on reboot, so I copied the kernel from the floppy I booted with that did talk, and ran lilo. I rebooted and now I have the failed keymap plus depmod not finding the /lib/modules/2.4.x-2BOOT/modules.dep couldn't be opened for writing, so for a quick fix, I simlinked what I had with the path it errored about and got unresolved module symbols, so I deleted the link, and removed modules.dep for whatever else must be done now. I went to ftp.braille.uwo.ca/pub/linux/speakup and downloaded the speakup 0.10a file, and put it in place using the slackware boot disks that read windows partitions. I made a simlink from /usr/src/linux-2.4 to linux which worked, but installing gave a bunch of file doesn't exist for spark, m68k, and other non intel processors, and then some patch failed. So, I restored the original kernel tree, and that's where it stands. 1At 11:06 PM 10/15/01 -0400, you wrote: >I'm confused. Your message speaks of booting from CD.
