It is related, but the code relies on the boolean variable
sender->udh01_fb_quirk which should be set for you device by the patch I
sent you. You could add this line inside this if-condition:

  printk(KERN_ERR "%s():%d\n", __func__, __LINE__);

After recompilation and reboot, the log should contain lots of messages
if the quirk was set.

What exactly do you mean by that? Which tests did you do in order to
find out?
