I think I share Giuliano's skepticism here, because I do dual boot with 
Windoze XP, & the audio/midi functions OK... but doing as Arthur, etc., 
suggest seems something to try, so I will.  I'll try another 'dmesg' 
command after the operation (if necessary), & I'll let it be known, just 
as soon as I find out...
