Mesa includes Mark Kilgard's original GLUT.  That has license issues
that some find objectionable, so most Linux distros and (presumably)
XFree86 don't ship it.

If you really need that version of GLUT (instead of, say, freeglut),
just download the Mesa sources and build it from there.  You should be
able to do 'make linux' or something similar from the top-level, then
just install lib/libglut* and include/GL/glut.h.

I don't know if there's still a stand-alone release of Mark's GLUT.
