[Newbie]hello, i'm new to newbies and have a monitor question

hehe, yes i did, but anyway, i took a shot and downloaded RedHat 7.2...
hmm, burned the images, installed it on the same comp, when the
installation option was almost complete (all packages where installed
already) i was asked to set the monitor type, it stated a default standard
monitor or something (cannot remember), i was given the possibility to test
the monitor at 16 bit colors with a 800x600 resolution. I pushed the test
button, and ZAPP. No more screen LOL. I believe the best for me right now
is to reproduce the installation procedure as i did, and then set the lowest
resolution option available 640 x 480 with 8 colours like you stated Robyn.
To me at first place now is to be able to learn how linux works, how network
settings have to be done, and have a close look to the Gnome desktop. So a
fancy screen is far from necessary, also a high resolution is not my first
demand. If this does not work, i can still change video cards, and if
necessary take my other comp's monitor, and put the replacements on one of
my 'B. Gates' machines. The benefit multiple comp's at home :). No
offends... i just like computers.

For everyonce's information again, the vid card is a DIAMOND STEALTH 2500
V. 1.03

so long folks,
thanks for all the replies.

JOHN
