If the config program identify your card as s3virge and your card is not a s3 virge card then the problem is not at the monitor... What we need (and you don't give it in you follow-up posts) is: graphic card, monitor (remember the only important thing for the monitor are the synch figures...) your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file from then on one can try to help you with some chance of success...
