As I said -- search this list for earlier discussions about Perl. You'll
find posts from others with issues similar to yours and which may help
you with future work.

LANG=en_US is helpful with the current build of Perl. I do not have a
complete grasp of all the fine points of internationalization, which is
what UTF-8 is about, but the Red Hat build of Perl does not seem happy
with it. I don't know if Red Hat will do a fix or not.
