Should I just test things out here and there to see if things are broken, and if not just assume that my system is secure and
in good working order?
Well, I've only been in the Linux game for a short time, so I'm not sure how great this advice it is, but take it with a grain of salt. I would go with the test method myself, if everything works, I'd say you're alright. For me, after I fixed my VI, I ran some perl scripts (the original purpose for recompiling perl) and they all seemed to work. Plenty good enough test for me!
Do the same, run some perl scripts and stuff, see if it all works for you, if it does, I'd say you're pretty well off.

Fantastic!
Everything looks great! except for one thing. This will start to get off topic, so I will leave it at that,
I ran : perl -MCPAN -e 'install Bundle::Interchange'
and at the end, it failed :(

I don't know were to take this, I think I will start a new thread.
Thanks Rick
