Something like: I couldn't find any error so I found the patched source directory under ~/BUILD and did a 'make install'. This installed the new libraries and when I logged in again, the fonts looked much worse! The glyphs had little gaps in them. So I reinstalled the binary rpms, there is a moral here somewhere...
