If hdd is a burner, try booting without "hdd=ide-scsi" in your kernel
options.  I suspect this will prevent the lockups.

Are we seeing a pattern of ide-scsi problems in Shrike?  I just noticed
that cdrecord seems completely unable to burn CD's in 2.4.20-9 while it
worked during Phoebe2 and Phoebe3.  Will do more testing at home
tomorrow...
