A directory can only contain files and other subfolders. So if you have a folder called "linux" that contains subfolders, then "linux" is a directory. Evolution gets over this problem by using subfolders containing .db files, so you can have a folder that contains *both* mail *and* subfolders. The word "folder" is confusing... a mail folder is a file, but a directory is also a folder :) I'm sure you'll be able to cope with this. At least it is an easy way to get all your email out of those useless .pst files :) For addressbooks, the best way to go is to export them as .csv files (comma separated values).
