2Gb RAM?
FWIW, I've got a single CPU Athlon XP 2100 system running with 3GB of RAM and it's extremely stable. It's using the Abit KG7-RAID motherboard and 3 1GB DDR 2100 dimms from Kingston, and the standard Red Hat kernel (not bigmem).

It's been my experience that the motherboard & chipset make all the difference, once you have verified that the DIMMs are solid (via memtest86).
