Last week, I was using an old 4X panasonic SCSI burner and a SCSI 16x CDROM with no problems. Not much of a test! Anyways, I just switched to a IDE burner and CDROM, and it's workin fine at 24x. It's a Lite-On 40x12x48. I use cdrecord from the command line, and once I create my iso with: # mkisofs -r -o /tank/out/cd_image.iso /tank/in/ I then do: cdrecord -v speed=24 dev=1,0,0 -data /tank/out/cd_image.iso CD to CD would be: cdrecord -v dev=1,0,0 speed=24 -isosize /dev/scd0 Note that the burner is /dev/hdc for me, so your dev= above might be different. Do a "cdrecord -scanbus" to confirm.
