It looks to me like your hard drive is failing. Have a look at the end of /var/log/messages and run dmesg to confirm this. Did you startx as root or as a normal user? > Of course, I'd still like to get out of this situation and > fix the problem. Should I run fsck-command? If the disk is failing, then fsck won't do you any good. You'll need to restore from backups or re-install onto working hardware. > Commands tried and errors: > --- > #cd input > -bash: cd: input: Input/output error > > #rmdir input > rmdir: 'input': Not a directory > > # rm input > rm: cannot lstat 'input': Input/output error > > # rpm -i --force XFree86-4.3.0-2.90.43.i386.rpm > error: unpacking of archieve failed: cpio: lstat failed - > Input/output error -- Ed Wilts, Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:ewilts@xxxxxxxxxx Member #1, Red Hat Community Ambassador Program -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
