Thanks a lot for your advice Ed! I noticed following: I examined directory /usr/X11R6/lib/modules and compared it with my friend's computer (He's got RH 7.x). Directory /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input is somehow corrupted in my computer and this is probably the reason for "Cannot start X" fault. I can't do anything with 'input' directory: I tried to go in this directory, remove it, and to force install XFree86- 4.3.0-2.90.43.i386.rpm (package contains the drivers in this particular directory). These trials were not successful, see the errors in the end of this message. Thus, I'm claiming that login in KDE desktop caused corruption of certain files (ext3 used). Hard to believe? Of course, I'd still like to get out of this situation and fix the problem. Should I run fsck-command? K. Commands tried and errors: --- #cd input -bash: cd: input: Input/output error #rmdir input rmdir: 'input': Not a directory # rm input rm: cannot lstat 'input': Input/output error # rpm -i --force XFree86-4.3.0-2.90.43.i386.rpm error: unpacking of archieve failed: cpio: lstat failed - Input/output error --------------------------------------------------------------------- www.1verkko.com. 1verkko - kaikkien yhteinen - jokaisen oma. -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:redhat-list-request@xxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
