Are you able to log in to your pop server (via telnet or whatever) ?  If so
you have the right username/password . I would make sure your mail server is
configured correctly.  SMTP and POP3 are independent configurations.  Make
sure the server in your POP3 config is the correct one.  Make sure it's the
correct port.  Those are the first things I'd check.
