Once you get it all working, then you need that timeout script configured to run every boot, at which point your array should be safe. Once it's all fine, if you're in the market for more drives look at Seagate NAS or Ironwolf or Constellation, WD Reds, or Hitachi Ultrastar. They're all advertised (Constellation excepted, but that's reported as supporting ERC) as being suitable for raid. Expect to pay a 30-50% premium over what a Barracuda will cost.
