Nobody includes back-comptability today. In the automaotve industry (UK anyway) manufactures are obliged to provide comprehesive spares support for X-years. The computer industry are basically a bunch of "fly by nights". Yes, you can use phones and webcams to take pictures ... once you go beyong that you are caught in the upgrade loop whether you like it or not.
