My apologies, Roger.

This truly was a comment on the general state of humankind in the face of the various calamities affecting the environment rather than anything aimed at downgrading Houston specifically or the people of Houston.  A comment that actually finds its roots in Robert Silverberg's "The World Inside" (DoubleDay, 1971) if that rings a bell with anyone.

The downtown architecture is magnificient and I was astounded by the breadth of the FotoFest event and the warmth of the greetings which participants received.  The MFA Houston is specacular and I wish we could only have easy access to of all the cultural riches of the city.

I'm sorry, but that is just not true!  Many of the people in those buildings are dedicated art lovers, outdoors people, etc.  In the midst of the 80 recession, the people of Houston stepped up and found about $100 million to build the Wortham Center, which houses the Houston Opera and Houston Ballet.  These organizations are well supported.
