There are few schools where one can specialize in Wildlife and
landscape. There is very little money to be made in Wildlife and
Landscape. Stock houses are drowning in those specialties.
There are, however, a couple of very nice places where one can get
some education in such specialties - Rocky Mountain School of
Photography, Santa Fe, Maine Photographic Workshops come to mind.
You might look into taking a course at one of those places before
making a leap away from a useful skill and into a highly competitive
field like Wildlife and Landscape.
Making a living as a photographer is extremely competitive at this
point. Unless you are willing to shoot weddings or very contemporary
advertising or annual reports you are not likely to be able to make a
living as a photographer. Even academic positions at this point
require advanced degrees and myriad skills. In addition you had also
best make sure you can do video as well, since even weddings
now-a-days like to have both stills and vids.
You would do well to marry a doctor or lawyer and then become a
photographer, except in Wildlife and Landscape you have to compete
with doctors and lawyers as well. At least in advertising and annual
reports you won't find many doctors and lawyers except as subjects.
And, of course, you need well honed business skills too.
