just a suggestion of mine. I use a layers method. I do not know how it is called but it is doen thsi way. Copy the image in a new layer. Apply a High Pass filter with a value of 10. The change the blending mode of the new layer at hard light. Presto. You only need to move the opacity/fill slider to chage the amount of sharpening you wish.
 
I admit I did not ANY time with the unshard mask filter...I got vomfy with that method.
