horses for courses - computers are fine tools for some tasks, apalling for
others, yet people keep finding ways to use their computer to do perfectly
simple things for no reason other than they have the thing

And the biggest category of thing where computers are tremendously
effective is "organizing".  I suspect that lots of people find they
lose paper notes, but can find notes made on their computer, and are
putting up with the slow startup for now.
