of course you can format them, but that protected sector can be damaged and
unlike a 'normal' drive you cannot format those sectors and be left with an
'SD' card - what you'll have is a card, but no 'SD' - no use :(



read the wiki article and draw your own conclusions, but these disks are
NOT simple, and errors will damage them permanently

you can't copy that cryptic protected data back onto the drive to make it
an SD card if it's wiped .. unless you're part of the mob who own licenses
to the cyphers.

you'll see discussions about it on a lot of the portable user sites, places
where SD cards are used in palms, mp3 players etc..

it's becoming a problem

we'll all hear more about it in time
