Additonally, if you find what appears to be a fradulent charge on your bill 
you simply call Visa or MC and dispute it. Inform them you didn't make the 
purchase. There is protection even if your card is used by a thief. It's a 
bit of a pain but it's not going to suck money straight out of your bank 
account.
