Thanks for the response, which is appreciated.

But let's just check.

I had previously understood that you wanted bug reports and/or patches as
separate items (message "<3A35147D.26DB5B91@transmeta.com>" 11 December).
That is, "n" separate items should be reported as such, not as a single
megalith containing the "n" items intertwined.) But now it seems all the
separate items I submitted have become lumped together not only with each
other, but with another major item.

Also, two of my items (configure.in: "WXWYZ...mon" => "WXYZ...mno" ;
pam_unix/support.c: utmp) had already been done, and a third
(pam_filter/Makefile: "[ -e ...") is now under discussion with Steve L.

Of the remainder, one was definitely small and isolated (e.g.
pam_access/pam_access.c: "gethostbyname()"), whereas another probably
might have a wider implications (-D_POSIX_SOURCE) and another
(pam_mail/pam_mail.c: "scandir()") is again isolated, though larger in
magnitude.

Given that these items are independent, I'm not convinced that they should
be lumped together.
