rabelg5@xxxxxxxxx points out that I didn't have the latest version via
SSU.

The updater was not running; half the time it runs out of space so I have
to remove packages to run it, and it conflicts with my (originally
Chinook) apt configuration (I use dpkg and apt-get, not the GUI, and I
didn't spend time on it since apt-get still works). Anyhow, after
removing apache2, the Nokia user guides and the example files from MyDocs
to get space in /, I now have RX-48_DIABLO_4.2008.30-2_PR_MR0.

The Wiki says 30-2 fixed
"minor connection framework bugs" and "battery life related bugs" in
modest. I believe modest is an email tool, which I am not using.

I will be away for a week so won't have a chance right away to see if
it's any better.
Seeing if the battery runs down at my workplace is easy enough; measuring
the battery current and setting up an AP4000 at home is a bit more
time consuming.
