No, it doesn't. Adding support for a new piece of hardware to it would, of 
course, be only a Linux-specific solution, too.

Here's what I just don't get. You'd be willing to go figure out how to do it, 
and even to write a pile of code to add it, if it goes into the Linux kernel. 
What you're not willing to do is spend the much less effort it'd take to help 
me understand what to do so that a platform-independent solution, which'd also 
benefit Linux users, can be implemented.

Ys, I really don't get it. You must be right, of course, which necessarily 
means that I'm incredibly stupid. So be it. I accept the assessment.
