[quoted lines by Greg KH on 2012/04/05 at 20:09 -0700] >We merged the "speakup" interface into the kernel a few years ago. It >supports braille terminals, or at least I sure thought it did. If not, >my appologies. Speakup is for speech - not for braille. If they put support in there for a braille device or two, we know nothing about it, and, speaking for myself, I haven't even heard of anyone using such a thing. >But, along those lines, if speakup doesn't support your devices, it >should, and we can work to add support for that, just let us know. Our interest is in opening up braille access to all platforms - not just to one of them (even though that platform happens to be my own personal favourite, by far). Why put a lot of effort into each platform individually, when, as we've already very clearly demonstrated, all platforms can be supported with only a minimal amount of one time, general, work up front for each of them? The way we do it, each platform gets the same reliable and functional software with very little of our time and efforts being expended on it. Why do you thiknk that doing it the other way around - investing a great deal of time and effort on each platform individually - is the better way? >You asked vague questions about a specific hardware device that Linux >already supports, without asking why you need that information, what you >were trying to do, or even (as is now evident) the fact that Linux isn't >the platform you are trying to get this working on. Of course it is. I told you that I myself use Linux for my development and testing work. It's just that I know that it'll work on all pltforms once I get it working on Linux. >I suggest you look up the "How to ask good questions" document out >there, that might help out in future interactions. I asked what I needed to know. It was, and still is, a good question, and I did ask it correctly. It's just that you took it upon yourself to make me have to raise a massive legal defense to support that good question. Perhaps you could read the other document on how to respect others and give them helpful answers. Perhaps you find my statement above a bit offensive. If so, please look in a mirror and give serious consideration to how I just might feel about your statement above that. Fortunately, I happen to be a forgiving person who can put the evils of the past and the faults of others behind me. I just thought that it might be helpful to, if only for a moment, give you a dose of your own medicine. If you don't like it, then please don't dish it out. >I don't understand what you mean by "platform" here, I thought I asked >that previously. What exactly do you mean here? Linux? BSDs? OS-X? >Windows? Something else? Yes, that's the general idea. Although, as I've already mentioned, we're even looking into much more primitive "platform"s like grub. Can you imagine what it'd be like to have to deal with the grub prompt and have no monitor? That's what blind people have to deal with. We need our software to work on even the most primitive of platforms so that even they can be properly opened up to blind users. That's why we do things the way we do them. I challenge you to do it better. >This mailing list is specifically for the Linux USB kernel drivers and >interfaces, anything outside of that is pretty much off-topic and will >not get you very far, sorry. Okay - I broke the law and have unquestioningly been extremely rude! I thought I was asking knowledgeable friends for good advice, but, in so doing, I ran afowl of the on-topic police. I just can't take it anymore, and shall now be loooking for a doctor who'll be willing to help me commit suicide. May it be that your attitude isn't contageous. -- Dave Mielke | 2213 Fox Crescent | The Bible is the very Word of God. Phone: 1-613-726-0014 | Ottawa, Ontario | 2011 May 21 is the End of Salvation.
